Injuries to Mark Hudson and Jonathan Fortune left the Addicks desperately short at the back, with midfielder Matt Holland forced to play as a makeshift centre-half.[LNB]Parkinson managed to bring in one new face in the shape of Darren Ward from Wolves, and also asked about American defender De Merit.[LNB]"In the week we lost Hudson and Fortune, we tried to get two centre-backs in," said Parkinson.[LNB]"I felt we'd gone for most of the season with two, using Matty as cover, which obviously isn't his natural position.[LNB]"We only got one in but Jay DeMerit was a player we were looking at, along with several others. We put a call in about DeMerit to see what the situation was, but that was one of several calls we made."[LNB][LNB]
