Mackay talks up Cleverley

Watford manager Malky Mackay has heaped praise on loanee Tom Cleverley, whose season has been ended early by a serious knee injury.

The 20-year-old Manchester United midfielder scored 11 times in 35 appearances for the Hornets, before being injured in the 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

He told the Watford Observer: "Tom has been an outstanding model professional since he's been here in terms of his attitude and his application.

"He forced his way into the England Under-21s starting XI and that is testament to his character and as to how he's come down here and immediately immersed himself as a Watford player.

"That's the key. You've really got to get your head round the fact that you're their player for a period of time and he did that."
