Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd has spent some of the money he received from selling Marlon King to Wigan Athletic on luring Sheffield United defender Leigh Bromby to Vicarage Road.
The 27-year-old joins the Hornets for £600,000, although that figure could rise to £850,000 depending on appearances and promotion clauses.
The former Sheffield Wednesday star joined the Blades in the summer of 2004 and made 125 appearances for the club.
Bromby has penned a three-and-a-half year deal with Boothroyd's side.
