Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd has moved quickly to sign Brazilian midfielder Douglas Rinaldi on a two-year deal.
The 23-year-old impressed the Hornets boss in his seven appearances for the club following his loan switch from Veranopolis in January.
Rinaldi moves to Vicarage Road for an initial fee of £250,000, which could rise depending on appearances.
"I am very happy to have signed my contract and I am glad that I have been able to show enough in my loan spell to be able to secure a longer time here," Rinaldi told the club's official website.
"I would have liked to have been able to contribute more to the cause of retaining the club's Premiership status, but I soon realised it would take me some time to adapt to the English style of football, which is a little more frenetic than I am used to.
"As I was always deemed to be more physical than the average Brazilian player, the period of adaptation thankfully has come a lot sooner than it could have been."
Meanwhile, Boothroyd has opted to release Albert Jarrett, Dominic Blizzard and Joel Grant following the club's relegation from the Premiership.
Veteran defender Chris Powell was released earlier in the week.
