Watford have announced the capture of two players as boss Malky Mackay continues to prepare for the new season.

The Hornets have snapped up Carlisle United defender Tom Aldred and Walsall goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin, their first signings of the summer.

Gilmartin, 23, rejected a new contract offer from the Saddlers to pen a two-year deal at Vicarage Road and the club have the option of a third year.

The Hornets have already agreed an undisclosed fee with Walsall for Gilmartin who has spent the last five years at the Banks' Stadium after impressing while on trial.
