Hornets finally land Deeney

Watford finally managed to tie up the signing of Walsall forward Troy Deeney on the eve of the new Championship seasons.

The Hornets had several bids for the 22-year-old rejected by the Saddlers, before eventually landing Deeney in time for him to feature in the 3-2 win at Norwich City.

The deal could eventually be worth £500,000, with Deeney signing a two-year contract at Vicarage Road, with an option in place for a further 12 months.

Deeney told the Watford Observer: "To be fair, I wouldn't say I wanted away from Walsall. I did, however, want to test myself against bigger and better players."
