Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd is keen to bring Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson back to Vicarage Road for a second loan spell.
The 20-year-old left-winger impressed the Hornets boss during his initial spell with the club when he scored five goals in 12 appearances.
Boothroyd said: "I've spoken to Gareth Southgate at length several times. Adam needs games but Gareth hasn't got the players at the moment.
"We're in there with other clubs but if I could bring him back then I would. It would be good to have him back again."
