Hornets aim to keep Young
03 Jan 2007 - 14:33:36
Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd has revealed that he has rejected offers from three clubs for highly-rated midfielder Ashley Young.
The 21-year-old has been one of the Hornets' stars so far this season, but Boothroyd insists he has no intention of selling the England Under-21 international.
"We've had bids for Ashley," he told Sky Sports News. "There's been three from Premiership clubs and they've all been turned down, and we'll continue to do that.
"We're building for the future here and you don't build by selling your best assets.
"The team needs to be strengthened for sure and we need to add to it, not take away from it.
"I'm as confident as you can ever be. I have a very good relationship with Ashley Young.
"We have a relationship where I'll tell him the clubs that have been in and he'll tell me that he's been tapped up, because that goes on allegedly.
"I'm lucky enough that I've got relationships with my players that will tell me that, and I'll tell them straight. And we have to be like that. I think that's the best way to be."
