Hornets consider improved Smith bid
The striker has been strongly linked with a reunion with former Watford boss Brendan Rodgers at the Madejski Stadium, but Reading have yet to agree a fee with their Championship rivals.
An initial £750,000 offer was described as 'derisory', while reports claim the latest bid from the Royals values Smith at £1.2million.
Mackay is planning talks with his board to discuss the latest bid to decide whether it meets Watford's valuation of the 29-year-old.
"That is being considered at the moment," said Mackay in the Watford Observer in reference to the offer.
"There will be a meeting in the early part of the week where the relevant parties at our club will get together to talk about the bid that has come in."
Watford had accepted an offer from Sheffield United earlier in the summer, but reports claim Smith is keen to link up with Rodgers again at Reading.
