The Hornets skipper, 29, has not pulled on a yellow and black shirt since the end of August after a piece of grit got stuck under his contact lens last month - cutting his eye as he removed it. The area subsequently became infected but he is now on the road to recovery having recently undergone surgery. Mackay told Watford's official website: "It's fantastic that we managed to bring forward the date for Jay's operation, plus at the same time the surgeon procured a machine that he feels will help speed up the recovery time for Jay too. "It's too early to know how long it will take him to recover, he only had the operation a few days ago, so there will be a period of assessment now while the surgeon takes him under his wing. "Then the surgeon and our head of medical, Richard Collinge, will decide a programme for Jay and how long it's going to be."
