Henderson to stay put

Watford striker Darius Henderson has rejected the chance to join Preston North End to stay with the Hornets.

Lilywhites boss Paul Simpson had been hoping to lure the 25-year-old frontman to Deepdale, but has been turned down by Henderson.

Simpson told his club's official website: "Obviously I'm disappointed a player I believe would have been a strong addition to our squad has decided he wants to remain with his current club.

"The chairman had backed me with this bid which we had accepted by Watford, unfortunately that move is not going to happen.

"I hope to use the money in other areas to make sure we are a stronger squad."

Henderson has been with the Hornets for two seasons, having moved to Vicarage Road in the summer of 2005 from Gillingham.
