Hayes thanks Hornets for updates
Williamson left Adams Park for the Hornets last January and made the move to the Premier League last week. Another former Wycombe defender - Roger Johnson - moved from Cardiff to Birmingham this summer and the club have pocketed around £1million in sell-on fees.
Hayes said: "Jimmy Russo was superb all the way through the Mike Williamson deal, he kept us informed every step of the way as did Peter Ridsdale when they did the Roger Johnson transfer.
"I know that people will look at the money that Watford and Cardiff got but we would have never been able to get those types of fees - it just wasn't possible.
"So we installed sell-on clauses and that was the sensible thing to do.
"Now we have got two former players in the Premier League and I'm absolutely delighted for both of them."
