Gunn delighted by Canaries start

Norwich got their reward for taking the game by the scruff of the neck early on when Watford youngster Danny Rose was pressurised into a bizarre long-range own goal.[LNB]A late header from skipper Gary Doherty sealed the victory which took the Canaries out of the relegation zone on goal difference with three games remaining.[LNB]"I reminded the players about the slow start we made to our previous home game against Sheffield Wednesday when we lost the game," said Gunn.[LNB]"They responded to that by making a really quick start this time and, supported by our biggest crowd of the season, we went on to put in a spirited and committed performance and got the result we deserved.[LNB]"It's a massive boost to be outside the bottom three and now we have got to try and make sure we stay there.[LNB]"We need to produce three more performances like this in our final matches, starting at Ipswich next Sunday.[LNB]"If we do that, and get the right results, then nobody will be able to take our Championship status away from us.[LNB]"I'm just delighted with the way we played today."[LNB]Norwich fully deserved to take the three points, even though their 15th-minute opener had a huge slice of luck about it.[LNB]In attempting to intercept a pass from David Carney, on-loan youngster Rose succeeded only in directing the ball over Scott Loach and into the back of the net.[LNB]Watford's Will Hoskins struck the crossbar in the 23rd minute but the second goal Norwich deserved finally arrived in the 83rd minute when Doherty headed home from close range after an effort from Jason Shackell had come back off the crossbar.[LNB]Watford manager Brendan Rodgers admitted his side had been distinctly second best.[LNB]"It was very disappointing," he said. "We were not at our best and there is no doubt that Norwich deserved to win.[LNB]"We had great support today and we let them down a little bit. We are a lot better than we showed.[LNB]"The main thing now is that we react to the defeat in the right way. I'm still looking upwards and want us to finish in the top half of the table.[LNB]"We've got three games left, two of which are at home, and we've got to push on."[LNB]Rodgers had words of sympathy for Rose, who was substituted at half-time.[LNB]"The substitution had nothing to do with the own goal," he said.[LNB]"We've been nursing him through an injury recently and he was only ever going to get between 45 and 60 minutes.[LNB]"It's tough for him but he was showing good discipline to chase back and unfortunately he got a toe on the ball and it fell into the back of the net.[LNB]"There was nothing he could do about it and it's all part of the learning curve. He's a good boy with a big talent and he'll come back, he's got to."[LNB][LNB]
