Foster supports Robinson
31 Oct 2006 - 17:24:01
Watford's on-loan goalkeeper Ben Foster is hoping to earn his senior international debut in England's upcoming friendly against the Netherlands.
The 23-year-old is hoping to be given the nod by national team boss Steve McClaren, but not as a result of Paul Robinson's nightmare in Croatia last time out.
Foster told TheFA.com: "If I get my chance in the next game then brilliant, but I'm not going to be too disappointed if it doesn't happen.
"I'd like to think I won't get my England chance just because of what happened to Paul - that could have happened to anyone.
"I thought Paul was our best player in that game and I don't think he could do anything about that incident. I spoke to him after the game and told him he was different class.
"Paul is a great goalkeeper. He is number one and I'm number three at the moment and I can accept that because he has been doing well."
Foster is currently in his second consecutive season with the Hornets, having been loaned out by Manchester United to gain much-needed first-team action.
