Foster's semi-final despair
13 Mar 2007 - 11:18:06
Watford's on-loan goalkeeper Ben Foster is disappointed that he will miss out on playing in an FA Cup semi-final if his parent club, Manchester United, win their replay against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old England international has made 73 appearances for the Hornets since joining the club on loan at the start of last season and helped Aidy Boothroyd's side clinch promotion from the Championship last term.
However, the loan agreement between the two clubs stipulates that Foster cannot play against United.
The former Stoke City shot-stopper admitted: "I hoped we wouldn't draw United because I know if we do meet them I won't be playing.
"I just want to play as many games as I can."
Meanwhile, Foster is hoping to add to the England cap he won in last month's friendly defeat to Spain.
Steve McClaren's side face Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Andorra in the next few weeks, and the keeper added: "I haven't been picked in the squad yet so I'm not counting my chickens, but if the call comes then I'll be ready.
"I know Paul (Robinson) is England's number one. I just have to keep concentrating on doing what I'm doing but, if get my chance, I'll definitely take it with both hands.
"Playing for England against Spain was a great experience for me. I've won a cap and have seen what that sort of atmosphere is like. Obviously you then want more."
