FA investigate Shittu card

Watford defender Clarke Carlisle could be suspended after the Football Association revealed it was investigating claims of mistaken identity over a yellow card handed out to team-mate Danny Shittu.

Shittu was cautioned by referee Martin Atkinson in the first half of the 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United last weekend.

Blades striker Jon Stead was felled as he looked to break through on goal, but it was defensive colleague Carlisle and not Shittu who actually committed the foul.

Carlisle had already been cautioned in the match for a foul on goalkeeper Paddy Kenny so should by rights have been sent off.

If the claim of mistaken identity is upheld, the FA has confirmed the caution will be transferred to Clarke, who would then be forced to serve a one-match ban.
