Eye surgery fears grow for DeMerit

DeMerit was ruled out of Watford's clash with Plymouth after a particle of grit under his contact lens scratched his eyeball and became infected. He must now visit a specialist at London's Moorfields Eye Hospital where it will be decided if he needs a corneal graft. The 29-year-old, who has been struggling with blurred vision, said: "There's no point in getting too uptight about it. "There's still a chance of me being fitted with special contacts which could smooth over the scar tissue, but the infection hasn't gone yet and at the moment I can't see through it. "We're looking into every possible route which will get me back on the pitch as quickly as possible, but you only get one pair of eyes so it's important to look after them."
