Cathcart heads to Hornets

Watford have snapped up Manchester United defender Craig Cathcart on loan until January.

Cathcart, 20, will join fellow Old Trafford loanee Tom Cleverley at Vicarage Road.

The central defender has previous Championship experience after making 33 appearances for Plymouth Argyle last season.

Meanwhile, manager Malky Mackay believes the club's start to the season has endorsed his opinion that several of the Hornets youngsters are good enough to play in the Championship.

Speaking after Saturday's 1-0 win over Barnsley, he said: "You look at the back four and they've all come through the ranks and the Academy here, that's a real testament to the club and the people that have worked here in the last year or two.

"I think none of them looked out of place in this league.

"If players go to training everyday and show attitude and application in reserve and first-team games alike, they are going to get picked for squad."
