    Carlisle banned after U-turn

    01 May 2007 - 16:51:33

The Football Association has handed Watford defender Clarke Carlisle a one-match ban after agreeing that there was a case of mistaken identity when Danny Shittu was booked in the 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United.

The yellow card has now been transferred to Carlisle who had already been booked at the time of the incident.

Shittu was cautioned by referee Martin Atkinson in the first half of the Bramall Lane loss.

Blades striker Jon Stead was felled as he looked to break through on goal, but it was defensive colleague Carlisle and not Shittu who actually committed the foul.

Carlisle had already been cautioned for a foul on goalkeeper Paddy Kenny so should by rights have been sent off.

Meanwhile, the Hornets have announced directors Giacomo and Vincenzo Russo have left the board with immediate effect.

Chairman Graham Simpson told the club's official website: "On behalf of the board I would like to express our gratitude to Giacomo and Vincenzo Russo for their contribution to Watford Leisure and their commitment to the football club."
