Boothroyd feels for Foster
18 Mar 2007 - 05:04:13
Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd stood up for on-loan goalkeeper Ben Foster after he was beaten by his opposite number, Paul Robinson, in the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham.
Foster suffered his embarrassing moment just past the hour mark, as Robinson's long clearance bounced up and over his England rival.
Boothroyd said afterwards: "It's funny how things get thrown up, England number one and future number one. He just got it completely wrong.
"He came straight into the dressing room and apologised to everyone which is the mark of the man he is.
"It's how you bounce back from adversity. Ben is a terrific goalkeeper and will go on to better things. You have to be able to respond to that and I'm sure he will."
Meanwhile, Robinson promised not to taunt Foster about the incident when the duo link up for England duty this week.
He said: "I will try not to mention it. I know what it's like and it's not nice.
"It was a bit of a freak. If it goes wide I would probably have got a telling off from the strikers, it's just one of those things in football."
