We can beat the drop - Richards

Walsall midfielder Matt Richards insists the belief is there in the squad that the club can emerge successful in their fight against relegation this season. The Saddlers have struggled against the drop throughout this campaign and have been as many as nine points from safety. However, they are now only one point adrift, although they have played more games than most of the teams around them.Richards told BBC WM: "I think everyone believes in each other, everyone's full of confidence and raring to go. That's really important, and the gaffer (Dean Smith) has got us going brilliantly."On the impact of Smith, appointed as permanent boss until the end of the season in January, and former manager Chris Nicholl who has been acting as a consultant, he added: "They've just tweaked a few things. They've just made us believe in ourselves I think."The patch when they took over we were a bit down in the dumps and in a bad run. They haven't changed too much, just made it a good place to be around, made us enjoy training and going out and putting in performances."I think that shows on the pitch. Hopefully we can stay up, and I think it's a credit to all the coaching staff."
