Dramatic afternoon for Westcarr

Walsall's match-winner Craig Westcarr was red-carded for an apparent head butt in the second half as the Saddlers beat relegation threatened Shrewsbury 1-0 at the Banks's Stadium.

He leapt up after treatment and clashed with Sam Foley as several Shrewsbury players surrounded him in the 72nd minute, and 10 minutes ealier Shrewsbury's Joe Mills was sent off for a fierce tackle on James Chambers, as Walsall beat the Shropshire side for the third time this season.

Walsall had made a flying start to the match, going in front after just five minutes when Romaine Sawyers found top-scorer Westcarr on the edge of the box and he swivelled to beat Joe Anyon with a low shot just inside the left-hand post - his 15th of the season.

Shrewsbury refused to buckle, however, and played some decent football going forward without really penetrating the home defence, though Connor Goldson did hammer a half chance high over from close range.

The Saddlers almost increased their lead after a flowing move, but this time Westcarr's drive struck the outside of a post in the 40th minute.

In the disappointing second half referee Robert Madley issued two red cards and Walsall ended up satisfied to win by the lone goal.
