Walsall 1-0 Leyton Orient: Match Report

Chambers wraps up Saddlers win Adam Chambers showed his former employers what they are missing as his 30-yard scorcher gave Walsall a 1-0 win. The midfielder, who was making his debut for the Saddlers after being released from Orient in the summer, superbly powered in from distance to stick the knife in Russell Slade and his side, who could not muster a response. The Saddlers only just survived last term but they hit the ground running with Chambers beating Lee Butcher after 20 minutes. Ben Chorley could have got the visitors on level terms soon after but he could not direct his header from a Charlie Daniels' corner while Jon Macken spurned a good chance to extend the Saddlers' lead when he fired over. Orient came out strongly after the break in search of a leveller and Walsall keeper Jimmy Smith was twice called into action to negate Dean Cox and Jimmy Smith headers. Veteran striker Jamie Cureton spurned two good opportunities as Orient piled on the pressure, but Walsall held on.
