Taylor gives Saddlers the slip

Walsall appear to be heading for another relegation scrap after a third successive league defeat, this time going down 1-0 at home to Oldham.

A first-half goal by impressive Latics winger Chris Taylor gave the visitors their second win on the bounce and moved them above the Saddlers in the table.

Taylor scored what proved to be the winner in the 29th minute after his darting midfield run. He found Reuben Reid and was in position to connect with the striker's cross, his shot taking a deflection off home defender Andy Butler into the net.

Walsall made very little impression in the first half and although they huffed and puffed after the interval, they could not break down a sturdy Oldham defence.

Reid might have had another couple for the Latics on the break, while the Saddlers, who included new on-loan signing Dave Martin from Derby, had a chance to equalise in the 73rd minute, but substitute Alex Nicholls hammered the ball high over from Adam Chambers' pass.
