Stokes gets Saddlers run out

Chris Stokes was a second-half substitute for Walsall in Tuesday night`s 4-0 friendly defeat to neighbours Wolves after opting to quit his trial period at Crewe in order to take up a similar opportunity at the Banks`s Stadium. The former Bolton left-back was a 71st-minute replacement for Darryl Westlake with the Saddlers already four goals down. Stokes` decision to part ways with League Two Crewe meant he played no part in their 1-0 friendly win over West Brom on Tuesday evening, leaving manager Dario Gradi disappointed by the player's decision. Saddlers boss Chris Hutchings will now run the rule over the young defender, who spent time on loan with the Alex towards the end of last season.
