Smith believes great escape is on
Dean Smith insists positivity and belief are crucial as Walsall look to finally pull off the great escape they have long been striving for.The Saddlers first entered the relegation zone under Chris Hutchings in late September, and were eight points from safety at the foot of the League One table when Smith took charge in early January. However, the club`s resurgence over the second half of the season has left them heading into the final game one point and one place clear of the drop zone. And, speaking ahead of Saturday`s trip to Southampton, manager Smith told the club`s official website: "If we are positive and have the belief then the confidence comes through. Good performances usually gets confidence going and that breeds better players."The lads have proved they are good players. Up until January we were struggling and languishing in the table. From where we were we`d have taken this position, definitely."I firmly believe we can survive. We always knew there would be a lot of twists and turns along the way. It`s going down to the wire but we are confident and, like our supporters and everyone connected with the club, we have belief."
