Smith: Draw a fair result

Walsall manager Dean Smith was disappointed his side could not snatch the victory that would have eased their relegation fears as they had to settle for 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at the Banks's Stadium. With just three games remaining - two of which are away from home - the Saddlers still find themselves in the bottom four on goal difference.Jon Macken had given Walsall a flying start with a 10th-minute goal but Neil Mellor equalised after 26 minutes with his 18th of the season.Smith said: "The players gave it a real good go and we had a great start to the game, but the turning point was Wednesday's equaliser."Their goal gave them a bit more belief and knocked us back a bit, but I think 1-1 was probably a fair result."My lads are sitting in the dressing room with their heads down because they wanted the three points, but it was not to be. Now we have another big game at Oldham on Monday and there is still belief in our dressing room."
