Smith: It's all about fitness

Walsall centre-back Manny Smith insists fitness takes priority over results when it comes to pre-season preparations. Smith played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday as the Saddlers went down 4-0 to Premier League neighbours Wolves and he will get more minutes under his belt on Saturday as Coventry visit the Banks`s Stadium. And despite the heavy defeat to Mick McCarthy`s side, Smith told Walsall`s official website: "It was a good workout. Of course you want to win every game you play but these matches are about more than that. Like the gaffer said, you don`t get any points out of these matches. "I thought Wolves were class. They`re a Premier League team so it`s good to put yourself up against that type of player. "We got some minutes on the pitch and it`s part of the overall pre-season programme. Wolves were a week or so in front of us in their preparation. "We`ve got Coventry on Saturday and that`ll be another good test."
