Smith has Saddlers buzz

Walsall caretaker manager Dean Smith has already got the bit between his teeth as he looks to help turn the club`s fortunes around. Smith, head of youth at the Banks`s Stadium, was appointed in charge on Tuesday after boss Chris Hutchings and assistant Martin O`Connor were shown the door with the Saddlers propping up the League One table and Monday`s 4-1 defeat at Peterborough the final straw. Smith will take charge of his first match at Tranmere on Saturday, where he will be aided by physio John Whitney. And he told the club`s official website: "Having spoken to the players and got out on the training ground with them, I am starting to get a buzz about the role now and can`t wait to get stuck into it. "I want to hit the ground running, we`re at the bottom and need to fight our way up the table, starting at Tranmere. "This is a results-based industry and we need to start getting results. I am here to do the best I can for the football club and get my thoughts and ideas across to the players. Hopefully a new voice will be the catalyst we need."
