Smith hails the joy of six

Walsall manager Dean Smith was delighted to finally get a result that he felt their recent performances have deserved after they thrashed Bristol Rovers 6-1 to keep alive their hopes of avoiding relegation. Two goals from Andy Butler plus further strikes from Matthew Gills, Julian Gray, Matt Richards and Alex Nicholls rendered Jeff Hughes strike for Rovers a mere consolation as Walsall notched their first win in six league games. "That result has been coming because we have been giving that kind of performance but not getting results," said Smith. "You could see the work ethic from the players. There is belief in the dressing room. "I like the players to play high up the pitch and pressure the opposition into mistakes, which they did. "This result will make people sit up and take notice, but it is only three points. We have to keep plugging away and if we keep performing like that the results will come. "We have been working hard on set pieces, and we scored some great goals."
