The Saddlers were dealt a blow when right-back Chris Palmer was stretchered off with a badly gashed leg after 20 minutes, meaning youngster Sam Adkins was pressed into action for a senior debut.[LNB]Adkins performed well but Walsall were rarely seen as an attacking force, with Chris Whelpdale's early header proving the difference between the two sides.[LNB]Schofield said: "I asked for effort, commitment and desire - and I got all three in abundance. The thing that let us down was a lack of quality.[LNB]"It was disappointing to concede from a set piece - especially so early in the game - but I am sure that when I watch the video after my wife and kids have gone to bed I will be able to take a fair few positives from the game."[LNB][LNB]
