Saddlers starlet ruled out

Walsall will be without Scott Dann for the rest of the season after the defender suffered a broken metatarsal during Sunday's 1-1 draw with MK Dons.

The 20-year-old centre-half hobbled off during the second half at the National Hockey Stadium and scans have revealed a break to the fifth metatarsal bone.

"It's bad news for Scott and the club. The injury means that we're likely to be without him for pretty much the rest of the season," Saddlers boss Richard Money told the club's official website.

"It was a freak injury that's becoming more and more common in the modern game.

"These types of injuries didn't occur in my day and I feel that it has a lot to do with the modern football boot.

"It's an unfortunate situation but it gives others the chance to come into the team and show what they can do."
