Saddlers bosses 'best in 20 years'
Manager Chris Hutchings and assistant Martin O'Connor have brought with them an element of progression and attention to detail on the training ground, especially in regard to the club's youth system, since their appointment almost 12 months ago. But the club's entire backroom staff has come in for praise, with the arrival of Dean Smith as head of youth and the return of Mick Kearns as goalkeeping coach also helping to bring back the feel-good factor. With Walsall perched just one point outside the top six, Bonser told the Birmingham Mail: "Chris is a true manager in terms of covering every aspect of the manager's job. He is not just a first-team coach, he works very closely with the youth set-up which is something that has never happened before here. "We are not a buying club so all we can do is bring our own players through and I am more relaxed about that situation than ever before in my 20 years here. I have full confidence that everything on the playing side at this clubs is in good hands. This is the best coaching team of my time here. "Sometimes it is very difficult in football to get people working together but Chris, Martin, Dean and Mick know each other well and all have huge Walsall connections. It's a breath of fresh air. I just hope people show a bit of patience."
