Saddlers unseat Daggers

Walsall substitute Will Grigg grabbed the only goal of the game nine minutes from time in a hard-fought relegation battle against Dagenham at the Banks's stadium. The Northern Ireland Under-21 international came on in the 74th minute with the Daggers hanging on under waves of pressure from the hosts. He scored his second goal of the season from the edge of the box when veteran striker Jon Macken laid the ball into his path. Walsall missed a string of chances in the first half. Macken shot wide in the 13th minute and again five minutes later before Matt Richards saw his shot saved by Tony Roberts just after the half-hour mark. The Daggers packed everyone back in the search of a point hoping to extend their unbeaten run to four games. Macken should have scored in the 52nd-minute but failed to beat Roberts from close range. At the other end, the visitors relied mainly on set pieces and long throws. But Grigg had the last word to give Walsall a lifeline in their fight to stay up.
