Saddlers leave lasting impression on Gill

Matt Gill is hoping Walsall can drag themselves away from relegation danger over the remainder of the season having seen his loan deal at the Banks`s Stadium come to an end. Despite the best attempts of Saddlers boss Dean Smith to extend Gill`s month-long stay, the midfielder has returned to parent club Norwich as they look to boost their promotion push from the Championship. Gill featured eight times for Walsall and scored twice, helping to accrue 11 points in the club`s recent turnaround in form, but saw his swansong end with a 1-0 reverse at Colchester on Saturday. "It`s a shame my loan spell had to end with a defeat," he told the club`s official website. "Hopefully it`s just a blip and the lads can put it behind them for the final 14 games. "We didn`t perform as well as we have done, but I`m sure the lads will carry on the good form of recent weeks in the matches that lie ahead. "I`m pleased with how the loan went. There`s a great bunch of lads here, the manager was brilliant and I`ve really enjoyed it."
