Saddlers hope for Byfield

Walsall hope to have striker Darren Byfield available for their first ever league meeting with Dagenham. The Saddlers skipper has been missing for almost a month having injured his knee when he landed awkwardly in the 2-1 home defeat to Swindon. But he received a cortisone injection to the affected area earlier in the week and hopes to train fully on Friday with a view to making the trip south with his team-mates. Winger Steve Jones is fit and in contention having made a late three-minute cameo on his long-awaited return from an ankle injury in last Saturday`s 2-1 victory over Exeter - a result which ended an eight-game winless run and duly lifted the midlands outfit off the foot of the table. That just leaves midfielder Richard Taundry working on his rehabilitation from a long-term knee injury.
