Saddlers can escape - Smith

Caretaker manager Dean Smith believes there are signs that Walsall are capable of getting themselves out of the League One relegation zone. Two draws in four days at Tranmere and Bristol Rovers have lifted the Saddlers off the bottom of the table. Smith`s side have hit five goals along the way but are still leaking goals at the other end and, after conceding twice in the space of a minute at the Memorial Stadium, he knows that is an area where they must improve. "We got out of the blocks really quickly and the first half was the best we have played in a long time," said Smith. "Credit to Rovers for doing the same to us at the start of the second half as we had done to them at the beginning of the game. "But to concede twice in less than two minutes was disappointing. We have to be stronger in how we react when conceding a goal. In the end we have to be pleased with two matches unbeaten, even if they have only brought two points. "I have certainly seen enough to suggest we can do a lot better over the second half of the season than the first. We intend to add to the squad but I firmly believe the players here have what it takes to get us out of trouble."
