Walsall have signed free agent Andy Butler until the end of the season. The centre-back has spent the past week with the Saddlers and featured for their reserves on Wednesday as they beat a youthful Rotherham side 7-0. Butler started his career at Scunthorpe before opting for a move to Huddersfield in the summer of 2008 where he shone during his first season at the club. He later went on loan to Blackpool over the second half of last season as the Seasiders clinched promotion to the Premier League. The 27-year-old was released by Huddersfield upon his return to the Galpharm Stadium back in the summer. Saddlers boss Chris Hutchings said: "He has good pedigree. He is an experienced lad and an organiser who does what he does well. "He's got the leadership qualities that we are looking for and is not afraid to get stuck in. He's got a good left foot and is strong in the air. He will add a lot to our defensive options and I am delighted to have him on board."
