Posh defeat angers Hutchings

Walsall boss Chris Hutchings was mightily aggrieved after a 4-1 defeat at Peterborough left his side cast eight points adrift at the bottom of the table. The Saddlers were still in the game at 2-1 until a controversial third Posh goal put paid to their hopes of a precious point. Nat Mendez-Laing looked offside as he was allowed to race in on goal before rounding keeper Jonny Brain and slotting into the empty net. Assistant boss Martin O'Connor was sent from the stands for his protests and Hutchings said: "We have every right to feel hard done by. Everyone in the ground could see that Peterborough's third goal was offside apart from the man that mattered. "It might be a 4-1 result on paper but anyone who watched the games knows that is not a fair reflection. We worked hard, we posed a constant threat and it just wasn't our day. We created plenty of good chances and could easily have scored four or five times. "It was a much-improved performance but things didn't go our way. If we can reproduce this level of performance and be that bit more clinical in front of goal we can certainly pick up points and results. "We know what the players can do and will keep the faith in them. Days like this can have an effect on them but we will keep working hard and believing."
