Although the 41-year-old would have preferred to kick-off with a home clash, O'Connor still believes the Saddlers can claim a positive result at the Withdean Stadium.
"This will be Chris [Hutchings] and mine's first full season at the club and it is one we're both really looking forward to," he told the club's official website. "Now the fixtures are out it gives you a date to work towards.
"We have the rest of the summer to shape the squad and get them ready to hit the ground running on August 8.
"Every team would rather start at home because it gives your fans the first chance to see the new squad in action. That said though, Brighton is a decent fixture and, like so many in League One, is one that we will need to be at our best to get something out of."
