Nicholls banned for Saddlers

Alex Nicholls is suspended for Walsall`s Johnstone`s Paint Trophy clash against Chesterfield. Nicholls received the first red card of his career in the 2-1 league defeat at Brighton on Saturday after kicking out at Albion defender Tommy Elphick. He misses the first-round tie as he begins a three-match ban. Nicholls` absence increases manager Chris Hutchings` problems in attack. Steve Jones is still nursing the ankle injury he sustained against Plymouth, while Darren Byfield is likely to remain sidelined for the third straight game with an Achilles complaint. Jon Macken, who has been suffering with a calf injury, came off the bench to score at Brighton and could have to make his first start of the season. Youngsters Clayton McDonald, William Grigg, Darryl Westlake, Sean Geddes and Jamie Paterson could be involved.
