Walsall manager Jimmy Mullen has revealed that he failed with a bid to bring a Championship defender to the Banks's Stadium on loan last week.
The Saddlers boss had been keen to add to his defensive options before last Thursday's loan deadline passed, only to miss out on his principal target.
Mullen said: "We were very, very close, for the want of a better word. Maybe the player didn't fancy dropping down to this level.
"He'd have improved us without a doubt because he could have played in two positions. He's been in and out of his side, but didn't want to drop down."
