Experienced Walsall striker Jon Macken says his stunning first goal against Brentford came after hours of trying on the training pitch. The 33-year-old bagged a brace as the Saddlers claimed a 3-2 win to boost their survival chances.Macken told the club's official website: "I've been trying that in training for a while now. I'm glad it came off; as soon as the ball was in the air I knew what I was going to do."It was a good goal, but the main thing for me was that we got the three points. It was a massive win for us, but at the moment it seems that we need something to happen to put us into gear and it's difficult to work out why that is."The former Preston and Manchester City striker was also delighted to pick up the man of the match accolade and is confident the result can serve as a springboard to staying up. "I always try and work hard and do my best for the team. We're in the position now where we need to stand up and be counted. We have to be brave both individually and as a team to stay out of the relegation zone. It's still tight down there but we've got games coming up that we believe we can win. We'll be working hard to put in the performances that will get us the victories we need."
