Jones hopes to start for Saddlers

The wide man came off the bench at the Banks's Stadium to seemingly grab all three points for the Saddlers with his 74th-minute finish, but the Cumbrians left it late before snatching a share of the spoils. Jones kicked off the League One season as a regular in Walsall's starting XI but after spending a month on the sidelines nursing a groin injury, he has returned to find himself with a substitutes role. Yet he is hoping his strike at the weekend has given the Saddlers management plenty to think about. He told the club's official website: "I was pleased to get on and make an impact. Hopefully by scoring it will stake my claims for a place in the starting line-up. "I want to get a run of games under my belt, improve my match fitness levels and push on from there. "The team is gelling together well and it bodes well for the future. The key is consistency - the table is still so close at the moment and we want to give the supporters something to cheer about."
