Hutchings pleads for more

Chris Hutchings called a team meeting on Monday in which he told his Walsall players to stand up and be counted. After Saturday`s 4-1 home defeat to Tranmere, the Saddlers boss is running out of time to save his job with the club second from bottom in League One and with one win in their last 11 games. Chairman Jeff Bonser appears to be standing by Hutchings` side for the time being at least, although no official comment has been made since the weekend. And Hutchings has told his players they must raise their game and start turning things around. "I speak to Jeff on a daily basis and that hasn't changed," Hutchings told the Birmingham Mail. "Managers are always under pressure and I can assure the fans that, as coaching staff, we are hurting deeply at the moment. But what about the players? "We had a meeting yesterday (Monday) and a few things were said. I told the players to take a good look in the mirror and be totally honest with themselves and ask `can they give any more?`. This is a ruthless business and if players are not doing their jobs, they won't stay in the team. We haven't got a lot of room for manoeuvre selection-wise but are trying hard to bring in a couple of players. "It's not easy because players of the quality we are after are usually only not playing for their team because of injury. But we'll keep trying. There is a possibility someone can be in for the game at Huddersfield on Saturday."
