Hutchings bemoans equalising goal

Walsall boss Chris Hutchings admitted his side failed to respond to the blow of conceding an equaliser just before the break in the defeat at Hartlepool. Julian Gray gave the visitors a ninth-minute lead but Antony Sweeney levelled a minute before the interval and Andy Monkhouse headed home in the 56th minute to complete the comeback. "We went one-up, on the front foot and put them under pressure. We were the better side and unfortunate to concede on half-time," said Hutchings. "Going in one up would have set us up nicely and instead we never really got going second half. It was a sloppy equaliser, a long throw we didn't clear. The second goal was an absolute joke, no marking, no picking up. "Certain players have certain jobs to do and it's so disappointing. People have let us down, you cannot do that at any level. That goal knocked confidence a bit and it was only in the last few minutes we showed urgency to get back into it. Then it was an uphill struggle. "Confidence has been affected a bit by the goals we have conceded - we haven't conceded a good goal in recent weeks have we if I'm being honest. The lads have to look in the mirror and start picking things out. There's no excuses for goals like we conceded."
