Hughes determined to nail down place

Walsall captain Mark Hughes has targeted an extended run in Chris Hutchings` XI having played his first 90 minutes for three months in Monday`s 2-1 win over Wycombe. Hughes, in his first season at the Banks`s Stadium, has struggled with a series of injuries over the second half of the campaign and was then sent off on his return against Colchester last month. Yet he served his three-match ban and returned to Hutchings` starting line-up on Easter Monday, completing his first match since the 2-1 home defeat to Brighton in mid-January. "It`s been a long few weeks. It was tough seeing the lads go and play," Hughes told the club`s official website. "Even though you train I`ve only had two reserve games. You can do as much running and training as you want but ask anyone, there`s nothing better than match practice. "It was good to be back out there and the aim now has to be to stay in the team."
