Gilmartin explains Saddlers exit

Goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin has revealed that he left Walsall to join Watford as he believed he was worth more than the club were willing to offer. The 23-year-old, who quit the Banks's Stadium last week to sign a two-year contract with the Hornets, said he rejected the chance to remain with the Saddlers as the terms on the table for him were not good enough. He told the Express and Star: "Walsall offered me a contract and I didn't feel the terms were sufficient so I rejected it. I valued myself at a bit more than the deal they offered me. "I didn't hear anything back from Walsall and, because I don't have an agent, I do everything for myself. I heard there was interest here and there, so I decided to follow up on it." He added that his former side can push for promotion in the upcoming season if the board support manager Chris Hutchings. "When we had meetings with Chris and his assistant Martin O'Connor, they said they wanted us to push on to the top six but you wonder if the club are really supporting them in that ambition."
