Walsall manager Chris Hutchings has admitted he is working with a limited budget as he looks to bring in new faces this summer.

After spells in the Premier League with Bradford City and Wigan Athletic, a lack of cash-flow is a foreign position for Hutchings, but he is refusing to let it derail his preparations ahead of the forthcoming season.

"Being at Wigan and Bradford in the Premier League, it's a little bit like chalk and cheese but we are where we are we've got to deal with it," the Saddlers boss told the Birmingham Mail.

"You always relish the challenge. At the other clubs we were looking at international players the majority of the time and they command big-league wages.

"It is different to what we've got now and what I was doing in the past, but we want the best for the football club and we will do what we can to get the players."

Despite an ominously-strong division in 2008/09, Hutchings is optimistic his side can mount a play-off challenge in League One.

"You look at Scunthorpe going up, we went there and gave an excellent account of ourselves and possibly could have won the game," he added.

"We beat Milton Keynes and they were in the play-offs and we've beaten Leeds before.

"All those games give you belief you can do it and that's what we have to believe and strive for."
