Walsall boss Chris Hutchings admitted his side had not hit any great heights in the 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra.
The visitors grabbed a last-gasp equaliser at the Banks' Stadium as the Saddlers maintained their mid-table position.
Former Bradford City and Wigan Athletic boss Hutchings said: "Obviously the most disappointing aspect is that we've conceded so late on.
"The ball bobbled about and you have to hope that one of our lads gets on the end of it to clear, but they didn't and it allowed Crewe to snatch a point.
"They kept going until the end and that is what you have to do in this game. It can be cruel at times.
"We put in a workmanlike performance. It was pretty even but opened up late on. The lads worked extremely hard again. We knew it would be tough against an in-form side and so it proved."
